The Friends of Addiscombe Railway Park invite all Addiscombe and Croydon Residents to be involve in making Addiscombe Railway Park a better place to visit and help it fulfil its potential as a green space for Addiscombe. The Friends Group is looking for volunteers to help make the event on 21st August 2011 a success, and you can do this by coming to the event on the 21st August and joining in the activities or become an active member of the Friends Group.

The event itself will be at 2.00pm on 21st August 2011 and will be a family affair. The Friends Group and willing volunteers will aim to undertake some conservation work in the park starting at around 2pm and work will finish around 4pm. Equipment and tools are being provided by Croydon Council/BTCV. You are welcome to just watch, look for butterflies, grass hoppers, birds etc.,  or help with some of the park work. All the family are welcome to join in. Remember to bring a picnic blanket, snacks and some refreshments, espcially if the weather stays warm and dry.

If you are interested in becoming more involved with the Friends Group, contact details for it are set out below, plus their recent request for volunteers to help with the running of the day.

Hello Friends of the Park,

As you are aware we will be holding our first park event on the 21st August. Could you please arrive around 13:30 so that we can make a prompt start at 14:00.

Equipment and tools are being provided by Croydon Council / BTCV. You are welcome to just watch, look for butterflies, grass hoppers, birds etc..  or help with some of the park work.

If you are intending to help with the work you may wish to bring along gloves and wear suitable work clothing and shoes.

Also you may wish to bring something to sit on and refreshments.

We also need some volunteers to help with organizing work teams, collecting names and contact details for other interested park users, handing out leaflets etc…  If you can help with any task however small please let me know.

The tasks we hope to tackle are:

  • Invasive plants.
  • Mulching around trees (subject to material arriving).
  • Possibly bull rushes, although most seem to have been removed already.
  • Possibly brambles.

We hope to provide some entertainment for any children. Suggestions include:

  • Colouring.
  • Looking for butterflies, caterpillars and grass hoppers.

Any other ideas are welcome.”
