Don’t throw it away, give it away!

We can all do our bit to help the environment and one of the way is to make sure that items, we don’t need any more, don’t end up in the tip.  The three principles of reducing waste and our impact on the environment is Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Did you know that Croydon has one of the most active volunteer-led Reuse groups in London, and from recent personal experience I can’t recommend Croydon Freegle highly enough.

I advertised a sofa bed on their site on Sunday morning, and by the afternoon it was collected and on its way to a new home. It was easy to sign up to, and all I had to do was upload a photo and a short description to their website. Within a few hours I had a number of emailed responses, and the family that wanted it for their daughters’ room came around that evening and took it away. They even sent a text afterwards, sending their thanks.

Croydon Council, through its Don’t Mess with Croydon Campaign, is keen to make our town a cleaner place, and provides support to residents to help keep our streets tidy. Joining Croydon Freegle will also help make sure that Croydon is also doing its best in reducing the amount of items thrown away by ensuring items are reused instead.
