Malay House restaurant has closed down, to be replaced by South Indian Restaurant

The Malay House, the Malaysian restaurant on the corner of Cherry Orchard Road and Lower Addiscombe Road has closed its doors for the last time. For many years the Malay House was one of Croydon’s few entries in dining guides such as Time Out, and though the menu was simple and short it was very good and reasonably priced. It will be sad to lose this great little local restaurant.

The new owners of the site are already working on refurbishing the place, and confirm that they will be opening a South Indian restaurant, and Malaysian food may also be available on occasion. Exact opening date is unknown. This part of Lower Addiscombe Road already has two South Indian Restautants, the Banana Leaf at 7 Lower Addiscombe Road, and the Bharat Bhavan at 10 Lower Addiscombe Road. Maybe it is appropriate that Addiscombe should have a number of South Indian Restaurants considering that Addiscombe was the home of the East India Company military academy for many years in 19th Century.
